About Cong

The historical village of Cong is located at the heart of Ireland’s Lake District on the borders of County Mayo and County Galway.

Famed for it’s beauty and as the location for the filming of “The Quiet Man”, the village is surrounded by lakes and rivers in the most scenic and picturesque part of Ireland. Just a stones throw from the centre of the village are castles, caves, the abbey and standing stones.

The Heritage Trail links the many interesting historical sites and there are also ample opportunities for shopping and eating in the Craft Shops, Bookshop, Delicatessens, Cafes and Woollen Market.

There are many activities for visitors to enjoy from woodland walks to lake cruises, cycling to horse riding and falconry to fishing.

Being on the doorstep of Connemara and half way between the towns of Galway and Westport it is the ideal base for touring the West of Ireland. Kylemore Abbey, Croagh Patrick and Knock Shrine are all an easy drive away.

This website has been created by local people to provide information to help you enjoy your visit to Cong. Please contact us if you have any questions and we will do our best to help you.
